The University of Alabama football team may be down a pair of players this upcoming season, as star offensive lineman Cam Robinson and reserve defensive back Hootie Johnson were arrested on drug possession and weapons charges early Monday morning in their native Louisiana.

Robinson’s charges are very serious, as he faces a felony charge of illegal possession of stolen firearms and a misdemeanor charge of possession of a controlled substance, as well as a charge of illegal carrying of a weapon in the presence of narcotics.

The one-time top recruit has been a star from the second he stepped foot on the Alabama campus, starting as a true freshman in 2014 and becoming an All-American left tackle this past season. He would’ve been a top pick in this last NFL Draft had rules not prevented him from being eligible.

Robinson was seen as a lock for the top 10 in the 2017 draft, but charges like these certainly put a damper on those hopes, especially given what happened to Ole Miss’ Laremy Tunsil.

His teammate, Jones is facing the same misdemeanor charge of possession of a controlled substance and illegal carrying of a weapon in the presence of narcotics.

It remains to be seen if these are just initial charges that will be reduced or dismissed in the future, but the two are facing some very serious legal troubles ahead.

No word on a reaction from Nick Saban or the Alabama athletic department on these charges and the players’ status with the school and team.
