Okay, let’s get this out of the way: Matt Rhule isn’t that common of a name. It’s easy to assume there aren’t that many of them out there. That said, you wouldn’t think “Jay Rigdon” is a very common name either, but there have been five of them in my family alone, plus a DJ in Florida who apparently has a firm grasp of SEO principles.

Still, you can forgive some folks on Twitter for getting the wrong Matt Rhule when venting their emotions over Rhule’s decision to leave Temple for Waco, Texas, the land of Fixer Upper and piles and piles of money. (And, of course, a troubled athletic department allegedly implicit in a wide range of sexual assault cover-ups. Hence the piles of money necessary to get Rhule down there.)

Unfortunately, the actual proprietor of @MattRhule is a high school student. Care to guess his name?

(It’s Matt Rhule, come on. Pay attention.)

Ouch. So it is understandable, but then why would anyone on Twitter just assume that @mattrhule is actually coach Matt Rhule? Especially when there’s an @CoachMattRhule?

That’s something student Matt Rhule managed to figure out:

Heaven help @mattrhule if @CoachMattRhule struggles at Baylor. Those are going to be some awful mentions.

About Jay Rigdon

Jay is a columnist at Awful Announcing. He is not a strong swimmer. He is probably talking to a dog in a silly voice at this very moment.
