Heading into the 2022 college football season, the Alabama Crimson Tide and Ohio State Buckeyes are the two top teams in college football with Alabama ranked No. 1 in both the coaches poll and the AP Poll while the Buckeyes are ranked No. 2 in both polls.

While the Buckeyes may be behind Alabama in the polls, former Ohio State head coach Urban Meyer sincerely believes that his former program can hang with Nick Saban and the Crimson Tide. During an appearance on Outkick’s “Don’t @ Me,” Meyer called the Buckeyes “a loaded team” heading into this season.

“Oh, I do,” Meyer said when asked if Ohio State could hang with Alabama. “I think they’re every bit the talent level of Alabama right now.”

A big reason for Meyer’s confidence in the Buckeyes is current head coach Ryan Day, who replaced Meyer at Ohio State following his retirement.

“He also had a great infrastructure surrounding him and he kept those guys,” Meyer said. “And now he’s made some changes to his staff, which is hard to do. He makes good decisions. This is a big year for him. I love Ryan Day, we’re still extremely close. This is a big year. They are a loaded team right now.”

Under Day, Meyer sees Ohio State as one of college football’s most elite programs.

“If not the top program, one of the top two programs in America,” Meyer said of Ohio State.

Based on all the preseason projections, there’s a good chance we see the Buckeyes and the Crimson Tide facing off this season, which will put Meyer’s words to the test.
