Long before Urban Meyer’s bizarre coaching stint in the NFL with the Jacksonville Jaguars, he was among the best college football coaches in the country.

There have been rumors of a potential return to college football for Meyer. But the college sports landscape has changed in a way that Meyer seems not to like in recent years.

Meyer, likely soon again a Fox analyst, discussed the topic of NIL deals within college sports on the SportsScene radio show on ESPN 98.1 in Gainesville last week. He says that he feels it is an area of concern for every coach in the country.

“It is a concern for every coach in the country. I’m still friends with a lot of them and they share that concern. Is it right that student-athletes get reimbursed or paid? Absolutely, but it is just ‘How do you manage that?'”

This is just one of the elements that have changed within college sports, with conference realignment being the big storyline within the NCAA in recent months.

It certainly seems like things are trending towards a few conferences like the Big Ten and SEC becoming the two power conferences, with conferences like the ACC, Pac-12, and Big 12 scrambling to salvage from each other to compete.

NIL deals will likely go hand and hand with conference realignment as well, with schools that are in major conferences set to make even more money that will ultimately trickle down to the players.

College sports is changing whether or not people are willing to accept it. And it sounds like Meyer currently wants no part of coaching in it.
