The Nebraska Cornhuskers are in the market for a head football coach who can return their program to its former glory. Urban Meyer knows a thing or two about returning traditional powerhouses to the national championship stage. So naturally, there are rumors about whether or not the former Ohio State and Jacksonville Jaguars coach might be a candidate in Lincoln.

On Monday, ESPN’s Paul Finebaum said that Meyer, who recently returned to the Fox Sports studio after his disastrous NFL stint, would be on his shortlist for the Nebraska job. However, not everyone agrees that he would be a smart fit for the job or the situation.

CBS Sports’ Barrett Sallee said on Monday that “if Nebraska is approaching big names, or even up-and-coming names, it’s approaching this all wrong. It needs to ask itself if Nebraska is “good enough” for its candidates, not if its candidates are “good enough” for Nebraska.”

Tim Brando, who does commentary for Fox, added that he thinks any discussion around Meyer is “nonsense.”

“Barrett is right on this! Forget this Urban Meyer nonsense,” said Brando. “The notion that ya gotta get a BIG NAME is a joke. Urban’s not taking that job. Sorry.”

It does seem unlikely that Meyer is in any rush to get back into coaching. However, his ego may demand that he get one more shot of redemption given how his NFL career ended. But for now, don’t bet on Meyer taking any job that opens up, even if it’s something like Nebraska.
