The USC Trojans removed the interim tag from Clay Helton as he was named the full-time head coach today. His players seemed to be OK with the move.

The Trojans were smart to get this move out of the way. The team was left in a good amount of turmoil and potentially in jeopardy of not making a bowl when Steve Sarkisian was fired back in October. Helton has done an amazing job getting the Trojans back on track, guiding them to a 5-1 record, capped by a convincing 40-21 win over rival over at home on Saturday. The win gave the criteria to remove the interim title and move forward with Helton.  Now, the Trojans have a legitimate chance at the Pac 12 Championship and a Rose Bowl Birth, which would be quite a successful run for a guy who inherited a midseason mess.

His players have every right to be exhilarated with the news, Helton has impressively rejuvenated the program and has turned USC back into contenders.
