While Northern Iowa and Texas A&M were playing an insane double overtime classic, Xavier and Wisconsin were also having themselves a second round NCAA Tournament game that defied belief.
It looked like the Musketeers were cruising towards the Sweet 16 up 59-51 with 5:42 to go. Xavier would only score 4 points the rest of the game though as Wisconsin slowly stormed back. After a charge on Xavier’s final possession, Wisconsin got the ball to half court and called timeout with only 2 seconds left. That’s when Bronson Koenig let it fly from the corner and won the game for the Badgers in heroic fashion.
Here’s Turner Sports’ Brian Anderson with the call:
And as the television cameras were scanning faces in the crowd for a seminal reaction shot, TNT found comedy legend and Xavier fan Bill Murray, whose son is an assistant coach for the Musketeers. This is not how we like seeing Bill Murray.
Wisconsin moves on to the Sweet 16 and Crying Jordan might finally have some competition.
