Villanova University students and staff will have all of Tuesday to bask in the glory of their team’s heart-stopping NCAA championship victory over North Carolina Monday night. University spokesman Johnathan Gust said both undergraduate and law school classes would be closed for the day.

This is probably welcome news for many students who spent the night celebrating the school’s first national championship since 1985. However, the students who turned in early with an eye on class tomorrow are likely disappointed the school did not send out its decision earlier. Villanova waited until around 5:45 a.m. Tuesday morning to broadcast the alert.

Although the timing of the alert was assuredly strategic, school officials likely wanted to prevent another couch-burning fiasco.

The team itself is expected to arrive back on campus later this evening, with its flight from Houston is not scheduled to depart until close to noon. There is no official word yet on how the university plans to officially celebrate the title.

Of course, it would not be an accurate reflection of March Madness without administrators keeping an eye on the bottom line. The Villanova bookstore still opened at 8 a.m. to take advantage of increased demand for Wildcats gear.
