Virginia baseball player Stephen Schoch.

On Saturday, the ACC Network tweeted a 2021 video of then-Virginia Cavaliers pitcher Stephen Schoch giving a memorable post-game interview. That led to that interview taking off across the sports media landscape, with many not seeing it before:

Schoch was initially asked about how it felt to overcome the road crowd and come away with the win. He responded by crediting his team, dropping some expletives in the process.

“You know, you walk into a stadium of 8,000 people and they all want you to lose,” said Schoch. “But as long as you have your 26 guys ready to kick ***, I mean butt, you are going to be alright. Sorry I sweared, I shouldn’t have sweared.”

Things then took a pretty weird turn, to say the least… He then went to tell a story of a Duke fan in attendance offering him free Dippin Dots to intentionally lose the game.

“I heard a fan offer free Dippin Dots if I blew it. Which, the price of Dippin Dots with inflation is just unreal. For a brief moment I was like ‘damn Dippin Dots sounds good’. But also I thought in the back of my head, if we win today and win tomorrow, we are gonna be here another day. That’s more per diem, so I can buy my own Dippin Dots and be a winner.”

There were other hilarious and truly bizarre things that he discussed in the interview, including a fear of caves and how “his dogs think he is awesome”.

Many took notice of this hilarious interview popping up again and appreciated Schoch’s infectious personality.

Virginia could gain some fans from this hilarious viral interview. Meanwhile, Schoch himself is currently doing a college baseball podcast, and is set to record episodes of that from the College World Series in Omaha.

Correction: This post initially cited this as a new interview from Schoch, not a resurfacing of the 2021 one.
