FBS schools don’t get to have all the fun. There are plenty of exciting plays and finishes perhaps even more so at the lower level of college football, as well. Saturday night’s game between McNeese State and Southeastern Louisiana provided a great example of that with a stunning play that resulted in a 31-24 victory for the SELU Lions.

McNeese St. and Southeastern Louisiana were tied 24-24 in the final 20 seconds of regulation and with the Lions back at their own 18-yard line, it appeared that the game was going to overtime. Color analyst Deuce McAllister (the former New Orleans Saints running back) expressed that very thought during the Cox Sports TV telecast. SELU quarterback Justin Alo apparently had other ideas, though he needed a little bit of luck to pull off the envisioned miraculous finish.

Take a look at the play. And hopefully, you’ll be a bit more excited than McAllister was.

Alo’s pass was tipped by McNeese St. cornerback Jermaine Antoine into the hands of Southeastern Louisiana receiver Brandon Acker, who finished off an 82-yard pass play for the game-winning touchdown. Alo ended up with 339 yards passing for the game with three touchdowns, while Acker caught five passes for 168 yards.

But come on, McAllister couldn’t have gotten a little more excited for that play? Match the energy of play-by-play man Sean Kelley! Did he lose money on the game or something? McAllister went to Ole Miss, so it’s not like he was a disheartened McNeese St. alum. (Maybe he has friends on the coaching staff and athletic department, or ties to some of the players on the team.) Or maybe he was just shocked by the incredible outcome. His frequent repeating of “You have got to be kidding me” seems to indicate as much. Maybe a little more enthusiasm next time, Deuce.
