The Florida Atlantic Owls were blown out 63-14 by the Oklahoma Sooners on Saturday in Norman, OK. While the Sooners are ranked No. 7 in the country and were 18.5-point favorites entering the game, it was still a very disappointing performance from FAU. Last year, in Lane Kiffin’s first season as head coach, FAU went 11-3 (topped off with a 50-3 bowl victory over Akron), and they entered the 2018 season with very high expectations. They’re not supposed to beat Oklahoma on the road, of course, but Owls fans were surely expecting better than losing by 49 points to start the season.
So, FAU fans weren’t in a good mood after the game, and the alumni had to be particularly annoyed when they got a text from the FAU Alumni Association.
As FAU Owl Access explains, the FAU Alumni Association sent out a mass text celebrating the Owls’ victory over Oklahoma… which was of course a blowout loss.
Shortly after FAU’s 63-14 loss at No. 7 Oklahoma on Saturday, a loss coach Lane Kiffin called “embarrassing,” Florida Atlantic’s Alumni Association sent a mass text proclaiming the Owls the victors.
“FAU just beat #7 ranked OU on their home field. Let’s celebrate by helping more athletes,” the text read.
A link then appeared taking followers to an FAU web page that read in part:
“FAU Beats Oklahoma! Winning in Paradise”
The page also included an FAU hype video.
Naturally, many stunned folks that received the text showed off evidence on Twitter:

So I just got this text. Yes, let’s celebrate. Could this day get more embarrassing for FAU? pic.twitter.com/7NskZpv3Kx

Yikes. That’s a pretty unfortunate blunder!
Kiffin and the Owls will get an opportunity to make their fans feel better next Saturday, when they host Air Force in Boca Raton.
