Logan Schoenhardt Tom Brady

After six years and six surgeries, 10-year-old Logan Schoenhardt’s brain tumor was declared inoperable, so he shifted his focus to checking off his bucket list. Part of that bucket list? A meeting with his hero Tom Brady, whose #12 he had engraved into his skull during his last surgery.

Schoenhardt met Brady on Dec. 3, and ESPN broadcast a remarkable Tom Rinaldi feature on Schoenhardt and that meeting on this week’s Monday Night Football:

Schoenhardt isn’t stopping there, though. His next goal is to get to Washington, D.C., to see the Declaration of Independence, and the internet’s chipping in to help him do it. Over 1,500 people have donated over $100,000 to a GoFundMe campaign set up to help Schoenhardt check off as much of his bucket list as possible. Here’s some info from that campaign on why this is important to him:

There are no words that come readily to describe the courage, compassion, depth, and kindness of this small boy. Friends and family know him as fun, adventurous, optimistic , and a thoughtful, loyal friend. He has been an inspiration to many of us, and a hero to others. He is one of the most remarkable children you could experience and meet, even at ten years old. His conversations and vocabulary can be engaging and well beyond his youth.

Sadly, he is now engaged in his final battle, of which he is cognizant and aware . The time remaining is limited for our strong young warrior. He knows he will soon be able to rest in the arms of Jesus. As his friends and family, we want the best for him. Soon he will be in a place of fun and laughter, full of adventure and free of pain.

Logan’s family’s desire is to spend the remaining time with Logan enjoying each other’s company, while making Logan’s last days on this earth special and full of meaning and purpose. When Logan found out his cancer was back again and that nothing could stop it, he came up with his own “bucket list”. Because Logan loves science, museums, history, Disney and especially the New England Patriots, the Schoenhardts have plans to create experiences for Logan around each of these things if they can. Destinations so far have included New York and Disney World.

This has to be incredibly tough for Logan and his family, but it’s great to see everyone from Brady and the Patriots to those who have donated come forward to help make his remaining time special. If you want to help contribute to his GoFundMe, you can do so here.
