The San Francisco 49ers are doing a much better job than last season, when they missed the playoffs a year after making it to the Super Bowl, of handling some poor injury luck early in the season.

The Niners are 3-0 after the first three weeks of the season, thanks in no small part to the strong play of backup quarterback Mac Jones, who has filled in for Brock Purdy the last two weeks.

San Francisco was hopeful that they’d be getting one major weapon back to bolster their receiving corps, but it appears the injury he suffered last season was as bad as some fans feared, and he won’t be back in action quite yet, according to one prominent NFL insider.

49ers GM John Lynch told (KNBR) that WR Brandon Aiyuk is “not close” to returning from the knee injury he suffered almost a year ago. There was more damage than just to the ACL, and more recovery time is required,” reported ESPN’s Adam Schefter on Thursday.

Fans reacted to the report on social media.

“It’s a blessing I’m 3-0 with him down in my dynasty league but I need that reinforcements sooner rather than later,” one fantsasy fan wrote on Twitter.

“This isn’t news. We already knew he tore his Acl + Mcl. Which in fact does require more time to heal than a clean acl tear. So dramatic,” someone else added.

“How do the 9ers get away with lying to the fans about players injuries. Last year they continued to lie about the severity of CMC and now Aiyuk,” one fan added.

It’ll be interesting to see when Aiyuk Ian make his return.
