The San Francisco 49ers are looking to get back to the playoffs after missing out last season, after injuries to their star players completely derailed things in 2024. The Niners are off to a strong start to the season, sitting at 3-1 after the first four weeks of the season.
Unfortunately, star quarterback Brock Purdy is dealing with a lingering toe injury. Purdy was hopeful about giving things a go on Thursday night against the San Francisco 49ers, but was ultimately ruled out.
Now, it’s looking like things for Purdy are worse than initially feared, according to one prominent leauge insider.
“From The (NFL on Prime) TNF pregame show: #49ers QB Brock Purdy suffered a setback of his turf toe injury against the #Jaguars and is now considered week-to-week. He could miss additional games after tonight,” reported NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport on Thursday.
Fans reacted to the news on social media.
“As turf toe involves the ligaments, tendons, & plantar complex having some degree of tearing, a repeat injury can take an already compromised structure and lead to additional tearing / inflammation. This leads to a joint which is unstable; making push off hard (key for throwing),” one doctor wrote on Twitter.
“NFL is a mass casualty event now. All these union limited offseason workouts, soft mini camps, soft no contact training camps, starters not playing preseason and guaranteed contracts have created soft players who are not fit to play the game as intended,” another fan added.
“Mac wasn’t healthy for thr jags game. Brock had no business playing, especially with the reports of him being bad at practice last Friday. Should’ve played the 3rd string QB vs the jag,” someone else wrote.
It’ll be interesting to see when Purdy is good to go again.
