The San Francisco 49ers rolled to a relatively uneventful 30-12 victory over the New York Giants Thursday night, but Christian McCaffrey hit a couple of milestones that left fans talking.

Early in the game, the All-Pro running back passed the 5,000 career rushing yards milestone. He finished with 85 yards on the night, running his career mark to 5,079 yards.

That’s 148th on the all-time list, right behind former Tampa Bay Buccaneers star Mike Alstott. Many of the running backs ahead of McCaffrey ran out of gas at around the 5,000 to 6,000 yard mark. He’s on pace to crack the top 80 or so in career rushing yards by the end of the season.

McCaffrey then scored on a short touchdown run in the second quarter.

The dual threat running back has scored a touchdown in 12 consecutive games (including the postseason), tying Jerry Rice’s 49ers record. Former San Diego Chargers running back LaDainian Tomlinson and Baltimore Colts legend Lenny Moore share the all-time mark, with TDs in 18 straight games.

It’s hard to quantify McCaffrey’s greatness as a player. He’s fast, strong, tenacious and has great vision. But statistics help tell the story, and if McCaffrey can stay healthy, he’s got a shot to end up with those numbers on a plaque in Canton some day.

NFL fans paid tribute to CMC on social. media after his milestones.
