The San Francisco 49ers promoted former Pro Bowl cornerback Janoris Jenkins to the active roster on Saturday.

Ahead of the 49ers’ NFC Divisional Playoff round matchup with the Dallas Cowboys, they’ve added some cornerback depth. The team revealed the news of Jenkins’ promotion to the roster.

Undrafted offensive lineman Alex Barrett was also promoted to the team.

“The 49ers have promoted DL Alex Barrett and CB Janoris Jenkins to the active roster from the team’s practice squad,” the team announced on Twitter.

Jenkins, 34, signed with the 49ers’ practice squad in November. The team featured Jenkins in last week’s Wild Card Round matchup against the Seattle Seahawks. He picked up two tackles in the game, and the 49ers are hoping that he contributes on defense and special teams in the big playoff game on Sunday afternoon.

“Jackrabbit” as he’s affectionately called has been in the NFL since 2012. Jenkins has recorded 138 starts and 27 interceptions in his career. He had a career-high five in 2019 with the New Orleans Saints and New York Giants. Jenkins played his best football with the Giants, where he made his one and only Pro Bowl appearance in 2016.

Jenkins played in two regular season games with the Niners in 2022 and recorded three tackles and one TFL. We’ll see what kind of impact Jenkins can make in a crucial game for the 49ers, who hope to win their first Super Bowl since 1994 this postseason.
