The San Francisco 49ers were forced to start last season without the services of star running back Christian McCaffrey due to injury, which ended up being an omen for the entire season, as the Niners stomached injuries to key players and stars throughout the season.

Now, San Francisco is gearing up to start another season without one of its most important pieces on the offensive side of the ball, according to one prominent league insider.

“49ers HC Kyle Shanahan says Brandon Aiyuk is on track to return around Week 6 from the ACL injury he suffered last year — which would be against the Buccaneers on October 12,” reported Ari Meirov on Monday.

Fans reacted to the update on social media.

“That doesn’t bode well for returning to full form this season,” one fan wrote on Twitter.

“Forgot about this loser. Remember with niner gang said he was top ,” another fan added.

“I doubt Aiyuk will fully look like himself this season but a Week 6 return in an ambiguous SF WR corps does offer upside for best ball teams down the stretch. I’d be willing to take a shot on him in redraft only if he slides far and I’m in a league where I can stash him on IR,” someone else added.

It’ll be interesting to see what Aiyuk looks like when he finally makes his return.
