This season, the San Francisco 49ers are looking to atone for missing the playoffs a year after making the Super Bowl. Unfortunately, star quarterback Brock Purdy is dealing with a toe injury, and it looks like he could miss more time than the Niners originally anticipated.
“From The (NFL on Prime) TNF pregame show: #49ers QB Brock Purdy suffered a setback of his turf toe injury against the #Jaguars and is now considered week-to-week. He could miss additional games after tonight,” reported NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.
Rapoport also reported on Purdy’s replacement on the roster.
“The #49ers have signed QB Adrien Martinez to the 53-man roster in advance of tonight, and he’ll serve as the backup. They’ve also elevated DE Trevis Gipson and WR Malik Turner from the practice squad.”
Fans reacted to the news on social media.
“If the Rams don’t win this game by at least two scores, I am not convinced they are a Super Bowl team. The Niners Super Bowl Window was SLAMMED SHUT as soon as CMC fumbled that first drive in the SB,” one fan wrote on Twitter.
“This is somewhat weird. Adrian Martinez had one elevation left, the Niners didn’t need to promote him now. Maybe they’re preparing for Purdy to miss more than one game,” one person added.
“I’m not saying I’m hoping for anyone to get hurt but Martinez getting in the game tonight would be pretty awesome,” someone else added.
It’ll be interesting to see when Purdy can return to action.
