Last month, Denver Broncos linebacker Aaron Patrick suffered a torn ACL during a Monday night game between the Broncos and the Los Angeles Chargers. And now, he is filing a lawsuit against the NFL, ESPN, the Los Angeles Rams and the Los Angeles Chargers as a result of his season-ending injury.

According to Pro Football Talk, Patrick’s lawsuit contends that the mats covering cords and cables on the sidelines were placed negligently. As a result, he claims he rolled his foot on one of the mats, resulting in his knee injury. The lawsuit also claims that ownership of the venue – the Rams and the Chargers, in this case –  allowed for unsafe conditions.

As a result, Aaron Patrick is suing anybody who could possibly be liable for his injuries: the league, the network, and both teams who own the stadium.

According to Pro Football Talk, Patrick lost half of his salary for the bulk of the season as a result of his injury due to a so-called “split” contract, which limits his compensation if placed on injured reserve. Patrick is looking to recoup some of this lost salary since the injury was not caused by something that happened on the field but was a result of something on the sideline.
