Aaron Rodgers had been linked to the Pittsburgh Steelers throughout the offseason, but as OTAs started and Rodgers still hadn’t signed, doubt started to creep in around the league.
However, on Thursday, news broke that Rodgers would be flying to Pittsburgh to sign a deal and participate in next week’s mandatory minicamp. Rodgers previously said that he’d be willing to play for as little as $10 million this season, but many thought the veteran was just spewing empty words.
But with Rodgers set to sign on with Pittsburgh, there has been an update on just the sort of contract Rodgers is looking to sign.
“From (Good Morning Football): More on the #Steelers signing QB Aaron Rodgers, who said on (The Pat McAfee Show) that he would play for $10M and that does sound like the kind of low number the contract will be,” tweeted NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport along with a video of himself detailing the sort of contract Rodgers is expected to sign.
Fans reacted to the news on social media.
“I think Aaron Rodgers could have a surprisingly good year as a Steeler. He’s got a real chance to shine again,” one fan wrote on Twitter.
“Rodgers will get Tomlin fired. It’s what he does,” one fan added.
“He doesn’t need the money so it’s not surprising,” wrote someone else.
It’ll be interesting to see if Rodgers can get the Steelers back into Super Bowl contention.
