To say that this has been one of the most interesting seasons in Aaron Rodger’s NFL career might be an understatement. While the reigning MVP has certainly made a lot of headlines for things he’s said and done off the field this year, it’s hard to deny that he has left it all on the field, leading the Green Bay Packers to the best record in the league with one week left until the playoffs. He even passed Brett Favre for the most touchdown passes thrown in franchise history, cementing his place alongside the legend who came before him.

However, the quintessential question facing Rodgers is still the same one that he came into the season with. Will he remain with the Packers beyond this season or is this it? For a while last summer it looked like he might not even make it into training camp, but he showed up and has played about as well as he’s played in his career, all the while dropping hints about his future that could be read in a number of ways.

Rodgers appeared on The Adam Schein Podcast on Wednesday and while he didn’t come out and say he’s staying, he seemed to make it pretty clear that his preference and plan is to remain in Green Bay.

“The grass is greener where you water it,” Rodgers said, via an NFL.com transcript. “I really believe that. And you know, that’s an adage to dissuade people from going out and taking risks and chances, and you know, I think that where you spend your time and energy and what you choose to water will always be the greenest part of your life.

“I decided when I came back that I was going to be all in with the team and all in to see things move forward to a better place. And that’s what the conversations were about, you know, during the offseason, was about being a part of those conversations that impact my ability to do my job. And I, you know, from one of the first days, Brian [Gutekunst] and I sat it down and got on the same page and it’s been a really nice Fall and Winter. I appreciate his approach, how it’s been, and it’s been very meaningful to me. So I’m thankful for that relationship, where it’s at at this point, and that’s made my life that much more enjoyable. So I gotta give Brian a lot of credit for meeting me in the middle.”

Of course, you believe it when you see it when it comes to situations like this. But it sure does sound like Rodgers’ preference is to remain in Green Bay and perhaps finish his career there. But we do know that there are some very interested trade partners out there if things changed.
