The Pittsburgh Steelers have had a major question mark surrounding the quarterback position throughout the offseason after both of their starting quarterbacks from a season ago signed with new teams.
The Steelers have been linked throughout the offseason to veteran quarterback Aaron Rodgers, but no deal materialized as the offseason stretched on. Now, the wait is finally over, per one prominent insider.
“Aaron Rodgers plans to fly to Pittsburgh this week and participate in the Steelers mandatory minicamp next week,” reported ESPN’s Adam Schefter on Thursday. Schefter then followed up on his initial report.
“Steelers never wavered in their belief that Aaron Rodgers eventually would sign with Pittsburgh. Steelers HC Mike Tomlin loomed large in this entire situation. Tomlin was a drawing card for Rodgers, and was happy to work within Rodgers’ timeline. He is a major reason that Rodgers will be a Steeler.”
Fans reacted to the news on social media.
“Worst decision of his career! #DawgPound,” one Browns fan wrote on Twitter.
“Steelers fans, this is coming from a Jets fan. He’s going to ruin your franchise,” another fan added.
“Puts the franchise further away from another championship. Hello another 4 years of rebuilding,” someone else added.
It’ll be interesting to see what Rodgers has left in the tank.
