The New York Jets are essentially on the clock to get a deal done with the Green Bay Packers for quarterback Aaron Rodgers.

Both Rodgers and the Jets are in agreement about him playing there, but the Packers have some leverage about trade demands and that seems to be holding up the transaction.

As time passes, people are starting to get a little itchy about whether or not the presumed deal will go through. And now some rumors are starting to pop up that implies it could fall apart.

According to FS1 and WFAN host Craig Carton, the San Francisco 49ers are ready to trade for the Packers quarterback if a deal with the Jets fails to materialize. He also thinks that Rodgers would love to play for the 49ers given his personal background.

“They become the team to beat,” Carton said of the 49ers if the trade were to happen.

It sounds like a strange rumor considering the Niners have invested in Trey Lance and Brock Purdy to battle it out for their quarterback position. And lots of people in the NFL world wonder if there’s actually any truth to it or if its just something to scare the Jets into making a move.

“I wouldn’t trade him there, but I’d happily let them get involved to drive up the price,” one Packers fan wrote.

“Whoever in the Packers front office pushed this out, I love it, but nice try,” another fan said.

“They are literally just makin stuff up now,” one NFL fan claimed.

It’s pretty interesting that Carton was the one to get this information given his proximity to New York and the Jets. We’ll find out soon enough if there’s more to it.
