Adrian Peterson will go down in history as one of the best running backs of his generation. Injuries have derailed the latter part of his career, but has he done enough to warrant picking and choosing when he should be able to return?

The Vikings are currently 6-6 and have lost six out of their last seven games. Peterson, who tore his meniscus in his right knee back in late September, was hoping to return before the season was over with. He now has his eyes set on a completely different goal – the playoffs.

The NFC North has been a division that pundits have had a hard time of nailing down this year. The Detroit Lions are winning the division at the moment, helping turn all preconceived notions on their head.

Peterson has let his priorities be known to the media and he wasn’t mincing words when asked about a return date.

“I’m thinking that we’re going to make the playoffs, so that’s what I’m keeping my mindset on. So, if that’s not the case a week or two from now, we can settle back around.”

Well, okay then. When it comes to player safety, it really should come down to the player and when they feel ready. In Peterson’s case, he has done enough in his career for no one to really question these types of decisions, and why would they? He has been a quick healer and when at full strength, even in his thirties, he is a more than serviceable running back.

Will the Vikings be able to keep themselves afloat in the meantime?
