The NFL’s Week 18 schedule is creating some tricky situations for a few NFL teams.

One aspect of that is that the NFL added two season-finale Saturday games. For the four teams that are playing on Saturday, the hard part is that the league office did not notify clubs of who would be playing in the two matchups until Sunday night, cutting into their time to prepare.

Ultimately the NFL decided to schedule the games between the Kansas City Chiefs and Denver Broncos, and Dallas Cowboys vs. Philadelphia Eagles to kick off the final week of the regular season.

All four teams now have one fewer day to recover and prepare than they expected, but Chiefs coach Andy Reid had some opinions to say about the game on Saturday.

“I don’t care if it’s Saturday or Sunday, whenever we’re playing…we’re playing. That’s the kind of locker room I’ve got. They roll with it.” said Reid.

“I guess COVID has helped us in that area, being able to hang in the box and swing at curveballs and not bail out,” Reid said when asked if he liked the Saturday format in the final week. “So, we’re a little bit used to the sudden change. It just affects a lot of people — I’m talking about from (team president) Mark Donovan on down to all of us. Everybody’s got to move things around and organize, and we’re lucky to have a good organization with guys who like to work — you know, (general manager) Brett Veach and so on. All the heads of their department really bust their tail to make sure it goes smooth. As a head coach, I appreciate that.”

Kansas City will need to win in order to keep their hopes alive for the number 1 seed in the AFC. Along with that, they’ll also need a Tennessee Titans loss in order to secure the top seed and get a first-round bye.
