This weekend, the Indianapolis Colts got some pretty bad news when rookie quarterback Anthony Richardson went down with an injury to his throwing shoulder. The team didn’t immediately share a timeframe for how long they expect the injury to sideline the young star quarterback, but it’s now looking like Richardson will be out for quite some time.
On Wednesday morning, league insider Adam Schefter of ESPN reported that Anthony Richardson will miss between four and eight weeks and could still need surgery on his injured shoulder.
Colts’ QB Anthony Richardson is now expected to miss four to eight weeks, depending on his rehab and whether or not he still would need surgery on his right shoulder, per source. By placing him on IR today, the Colts are giving him time so nothing can, or has to be, rushed,” Schefter said in a post on X, the social media website that is formerly known as Twitter.

It’s a pretty brutal update for the Colts young star, and the NFL world had a lot of reactions to the news on social media.
Team doesn’t know timeline at this point. I’ve thought 6 weeks at least. Miss the 4, not play vs Pats in Germany, then they have bye.

This lines up with the ambiguity I've gotten from everyone involved. Sometimes the answer really is "we don't know." Shoulders are complicated. https://t.co/4HF0HAblN1

He still may need surgery. He was probably given the choice to try rehab first then surgery if rehab isn’t successful, or have the surgery now. Hopefully, rehab works!!!! https://t.co/FZw7hzQPsF

Minshew is formidable, but Jacksonville is only -110 to win the AFC South. https://t.co/AciGBddP0S

Typical scenario – rehab 4-6 weeks and then surgery if not better. Classic for a type 3 AC sprain https://t.co/qPXwPJmwqk

I think he's done for the season. He was progressing and getting better, but he had been knocked out 3 of the 4 games he's played. He is going to have to learn to get down and slide and stop trying to do too much. This is the NFL.
But for all the conversation about he wasn't… https://t.co/iN5tyJNvJA— Carl Dukes (@putemupcdukes) October 11, 2023
We’ll have to see how quickly Richardson is able to recover from this injury and how Gardner Minshew plays for the Colts in his absence.
