Indianapolis Colts rookie quarterback Anthony Richardson missed this week’s game against the Baltimore Ravens with a concussion. In his place, veteran quarterback Gardner Minshew played well and led the team to victory. But when Richardson is healthy, it’s his team again.

During a press conference this week, Indianapolis Colts head coach Shane Steichen announced that Anthony Richardson is still in concussion protocol, but when he is healthy, he will still be the starting quarterback for the team over Gardner Minshew.

“Yeah, Anthony is our guy. He’s our starting quarterback,” Steichen said. “Going back to Gardner — a ton of respect for Gardner and what he does on a week-in and week-out basis. When he goes in, he operates at a high level. I couldn’t be more thankful that he’s here and what he’s done for this football team, but if Anthony is ready to go, he’ll go.”

This is not exactly a surprise after team owner Jim Irsay made it clear that the best way for Richardson to improve is playing snaps early in his career. Even if Minshew is playing well now and might even give the team a better chance to win immediately, it’s clear that the team is committed to Richardson in the long run.
