Baker Mayfield’s nightmare season with his new team continued Monday when Adam Schefter of ESPN reported that the Carolina Panthers starting quarterback would be “sidelined ‘at least a couple of weeks'” after suffering an injury in Sunday’s loss to the San Francisco 49ers.

The Panthers have yet to announce an official timeline regarding Mayfield’s injury. The Panthers traded a conditional fifth-round pick to the Cleveland Browns for Mayfield in July 2022. Mayfield beat out former first-round draft pick Sam Darnold for the starting position.
PJ Walker, a journeyman quarterback out of Temple, is expected to start if Mayfield is unable to go.
The Panthers are next in action Sunday when they travel to California to play the Los Angeles Rams.
