The Los Angeles Rams shocked the NFL world when they signed free agent quarterback Baker Mayfield off waivers earlier this week.

What’s even more shocking is that Mayfield might start for the Rams when they host the Las Vegas Raiders on Thursday Night Football.

“Source: Rams want to go through pregame warmups tonight and see how John Wolford – who is listed as questionable with a neck injury – is doing before deciding who will start at QB. If Wolford is not healthy enough to play, Baker Mayfield would be in line to start vs. the Raiders,” ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter tweeted.

The NFL world was quick to react:

“There’s no way Raiders could lose to a QB who has been with the team for 2 days, right?” Josh Dubow asked.

“Starting Baker after 48 hours with the playbook behind THAT OL and THOSE receivers is wild,” Sam Monson said.

“Reminder that it took geno smith nearly a decade of hanging around to get another shot to start in the nfl while baker mayfield is on his second second chance to start over of *this season*,” the Smoking Musket tweeted.

“After being the building for two days??? This would be nuts,” Aaron Nagler wrote.

“This feels like opening up a Monopoly box and discovering you are missing pieces, so you steal Candy Land stuff so you can actually play,” Mike Kaye wrote.

Oddsmakers currently list the Raiders as six-point favorites entering the game.
