After missing nearly a month of action with a thumb injury, Chicago Bears quarterback Justin Fields could be nearing a return.
For the second straight day, Fields was listed as limited on the injury report.
Since the Bears play the Carolina Panthers on Thursday Night Football this week, Fields’ injury designation on Wednesday’s injury report will likely tell us all we need to know about the third-year quarterback’s status going forward.

The Bears provided an additional update Tuesday, as well, saying, “Justin Fields is considered day-to-day after returning to practice Friday on a limited basis.”

In six games this season, Fields went 100-for-162 for 1,201 passing yards and 11 touchdowns to go with six interceptions. Fields was on pace to become the first quarterback in Bears history to throw 30 touchdown passes in a single season before the injury.
Undrafted rookie Tyson Bagent has started the three games Fields has missed and has struggled a bit, going 74-for-110 for 697 passing yards and just three touchdowns. Bagent has thrown six interceptions and lost two fumbles, one of which led to a Minnesota Vikings touchdown, and the other of which secured the victory for the opposing New Orleans Saints.
With the Bears likely to have multiple top-10 picks in the 2024 NFL Draft thanks to the trade that made Bryce Young a Panther, they would like to have Fields back with as much time left in the season as possible, so as to see if they should spent one of the picks on a quarterback.
