The Cincinnati Bengals are trying to get the train back on the tracks after a wasted season. Despite entering the season expecting to challenge the Kansas City Chiefs for supremacy in the AFC and getting a career year from star quarterback Joe Burrow, the Bengals missed the playoffs.

Complicating the turnaround is the Bengals stars looking for contract extensions this offseason. Star wide receivers Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins both are looking at securing major extensions as well as star pass rusher Trey Hendrickson.

Now, the organization has made its decision on how to proceed with at least one of the three.

“Bengals embarking on ambitious offseason, aiming for deals with Ja’Marr Chase, Tee Higgins and Trey Hendrickson, sources say. That starts with Higgins and the franchise tag. ‘Can’t let him walk,’ per source,” reported ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler on Monday.

Fans reacted to the news on social media.

“I mean they need to work on that terrible defense but I’m just a NFL fan. What do I know,” one fan wrote on Twitter.

“They’re gonna spend all their money on a top offense, then their defense is gonna suck because there’s no money for it, and they generally don’t draft great,” one fan added.

“Fowler is the most tapped in national source. It feels like they are going to get all three done,” another fan added.

It’ll be interesting to see how the situations play out with each player.
