The Cincinnati Bengals are looking to turn things around after their season was turned upside down by a horrible turf toe injury to star quarterback Joe Burrow, which is set to keep him out for at least three months.
The Bengals turned to Jake Browning in his absence, but the results were disastrous, leading to a trade with the Cleveland Browns to acquire veteran quarterback Joe Flacco.
While the Bengals have only won a single game that Flacco has started, the offense has returned to form. On Sunday, the 40-year-old had a career day in a loss to the Chicago Bears, throwing for 457 passing yards and four touchdowns. In fact, Flacco has played so well that many are wondering if Burrow is more of a system quarterback than anyone has realized to this point.
“If his last name was Burrow they’d say he’s the best in the world,” one fan wrote on Twitter.
“ANY qb can do this with that offense with a decent line browning did it last year then they got film on him,’ someone else added.
“(Not going to lie) this proves he’s a bit overrated. Chase and Higgins do a lot for him. The defense is still terrible (though),” another person added.
“While this does diminish Joe Burrow maybe a little, let’s not pretend Joe Flacco is some bum off the street. He’s old yes but he’s known for great decision making, ball placement, etc. he just balled out yesterday,” one fan added.
It’ll be interesting to see if Burrow is thought of differently when he returns after the way Flacco has thrived within the offense.
