The Cincinnati Bengals managed to avoid one of the slow starts that have hindered them in recent seasons, starting the season 2-0. Unfortunately for Cincinnati, star quarterback Joe Burrow went down in the second game of the season with a turf toe injury that will keep him sidelined for a minimum of three months.
Jake Browning filled in for Burrow, but played so poorly that the Bengals made a rare trade within their division with the Cleveland Browns to acquire veteran quarterback and former Super Bowl champion Joe Flacco.
However, at 40 years old, Flacco is a bit longer in the tooth than both Burrow and Browning. Flacco’s age was something star wide receiver Tee Higgins made sure to poke fun at this week, per one prominent team insider.
“Tee Higgins said he told his teammates Joe Flacco was already in the NFL when they were getting in trouble for being outside when the streetlights came on,” reported Jay Morrison on Twitter on Thursday.
Fans reacted to the news on social media.
“Flacco been in the league since the last 4 months of the Bush administration I was 6 years old, in the 1st grade his rookie year & I’ll be a college grad by the time this season ends,” one fan wrote on Twitter.
“Have I said how much I love Tee Higgins cause I do. I love him with my full heart,” someone else added.
“Tee you didn’t have to do the man dirty like that,” another fan added.
It’ll be interesting to see how Flacco looks in his Bengals debut against the Green Bay Packers this weekend.
