While Bill Belichick is often a man of few words, it’s rarely hard to figure out what his mood is. Anyone watching Sunday night’s game between the Miami Dolphins and New England Patriots knew Belichick’s mood without even hearing one word, thanks to a hilarious interaction with an official.

New England’s Rhamondre Stevenson got the ball on a third-and-two but was ruled short. Replays on television showed that the Patriots might have a decent chance at success if they challenged the spot. Knowing a challenge might be coming, Belichick pulled the red challenge flag out of his sock, but held it for a few seconds.

As the chains were being reset on the sidelines following the measurement, Belichick angrily spiked the challenge flag to the ground, in clear sight of the side judge.

In the end, the Patriots did not win the challenge. Stevenson was ruled short. They did, however, pick up the first down on the next play with a Mac Jones quarterback sneak. One play later, Jones was intercepted by Xavien Howard.

But the fallout of the challenge was not nearly as notable as the way the challenge was done. And NFL fans had a lot of fun with Belichick’s “disgusted challenge.”
