The Buffalo Bills are looking to shore up their running back corps after the loss of Nyheim Hines and they’re hoping former New York Jets RB Ty Johnson will fill that gap.

The news was first reported by Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.

Free agent running back Ty Johnson plans to sign with the Bills, per source,” said Fowler on X, the platform previously known as Twitter. “Worked out for the team today and is cleared from a torn pec. The former New York Jet can help Buffalo’s third-down offense after the loss of Nyheim Hines.”

Johnson was a sixth-round pick in the 2019 NFL Draft by the Detroit Lions. He had 63 carries for 273 rushing yards and 24 receptions for 109 receiving yards in his rookie season but was cut in 2020. The Jets claimed him off waivers and had spent the last three seasons with them until he was released in April after tearing his pec during an offseason workout. Johnson appeared in all 17 games for New York last year but his best season was 2021 when he garnered 610 yards from scrimmage and four touchdowns.

In his career, the 25-year-old has 86 receptions for 668 yards and three touchdowns along with 925 rushing yards and a 4.4 yards per carry average.
