The Buffalo Bills have made no secret of their desire to land a running back before Tuesday’s NFL trade deadline.
While their failed pursuit of Christian McCaffrey made headlines, the Bills reportedly had another deal in mind in recent days.
Fox Sports’ Jay Glazer reported Sunday morning that Buffalo reached out to the New Orleans Saints about Alvin Kamara, but were “rebuffed.”

“The Bills are trying to make a splash (before the trade deadline),” Glazer said. “What people don’t know is they actually called about Alvin Kamara this week from the Saints, they were rebuffed there. Look, there are still other running backs out on the market, Kareem Hunt, Jeff Wilson (Jr.), Cam Akers, certainly not at the level of Alvin Kamara, but they could be had.”
Kamara has rushed for 351 yards at an impressive 4.6 yards per carry entering Sunday. He’s always been a great weapon in the passing game. It’s intriguing thinking about the five-time Pro Bowl running back lining up in the high-powered Bills’ offense. But it apparently wasn’t meant to be.
As far as the other RB possibilities Glazer mentioned, Hunt and Wilson would be upgrades for the Bills. Akers, coming off a torn Achilles he suffered in the Super Bowl, has struggled (3.0 yards per carry). He also brings some baggage, given his recent drama that led him to be inactive in Week 6.
