Denver Broncos quarterback Bo Nix is looking to improve on what was an incredibly promising start to his career in his rookie season, helping the Broncos end an eight-year postseason drought. And thankfully, Nix’s coach, Sean Payton, has the right connections to get Nix in contact with one of the greatest quarterbacks in the history of football to help serve as his mentor.
Payton and Drew Brees dominated during their time alongside each other as members of the New Orleans Saints, winning a Super Bowl in 2010 over the Indianapolis Colts.
It seems as if the two have remained on good terms since going their separate ways, as Payton was able to convince Brees to meet up with Nix for a week so that Nix could better learn Payton’s offense and the intricacies of the quarterback position.
“Look, Nix is someone who works his tail off, wants to improve,” Payton told reporters after Wednesday’s training camp practice, via ESPN’s Jeff Legwold. “And he’s gone and visited Brees for four or five days. There’s a lot he wants to absorb in a fast period of time and that’s a great thing for a young player like that. It was reaching out, coordinating some time to dive into the offense. That’s what you’re looking for… Wanting to know more about the offense. It was [Nix] doing more research at the position.”
It’s obviously impressive for Nix to seek out the knowledge that someone like Brees obviously has about operating Payton’s offense as smoothly as possible.
And at least on paper, it should go a long way into Nix further cementing himself as the face of the franchise in Denver alongside Payton.
