The NFL world was shocked by the slide of former Colorado Buffaloes quarterback Shedeur Sanders. After entering the draft as the presumed second-best quarterback available by most analysts and pundits, Sanders wasn’t selected until pick 144 in the fifth round by the Cleveland Browns.
Now, another pundit is analyzing what went into the unprecedented slide for what nearly everyone considered one of the top prospects.
“What is very clear to me is that Deion misjudged what kind of leverage his son has,” Bomani Jones said on The Right Time. “He got bad information.
“I think his son was operating on the principle that my daddy knows everything, my daddy knows this league, and my daddy says I’m going to be a top-10 pick, so I don’t have to go to all these places.
I’ve had people tell me things about the way Shedeur carried himself in meetings he had with teams. It was the way you behave when you have the leverage.
“He wasn’t good enough to have that leverage. Again, some of us were telling you that, as a talent, there were shortcomings. He didn’t have the physical traits that NFL teams look for. We told you this – we did.
“So, stop acting like everybody was so sure that Shedeur was going to go early and then the league decided to put their thumb on this outspoken Black man. Do you know how disrespectful that is to actual outspoken Black men?”
It’ll be interesting to see if Sanders changes his approach in the media after such an embarrassing situation.
