We’ve seen some New York Jet players — Joe Namath, to be exact — make some ridiculous claims about the Jets. Brandon Marshall might have topped the list of outrageous comments Sunday.

Marshall and the Jets fell to 1-4 Sunday thanks to a 31-13 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers. But despite New York’s poor record, the Jets wide receiver told reporters after the game that his team is in “perfect position” to make the playoffs this year.

Here is exactly what Marshall had to say after Sunday’s loss. Reminder: this is the same player who said New York had a “championship” practice heading into Sunday’s double-digit loss.

“It’s weird because we’re 1-4 and we’ll get beat up in the media and our players, including myself, will get called out, and people will be asking to bench us,” Marshall said. “But this is a perfect position for us. We have great talent in this room. We’re one of the most talented teams in the league.

“So we can do one of two things: We can fold it up and cry, or we can stick together and continue to work. There’s been plenty of teams that have been in this situation and come out on the other end and been exactly where we wanted to be. So I’m more than confident that we will turn this thing around.”

Obviously, the Jets need to start winning games to turn this around. There were expectations for New York this year, given the fact the Jets won 10 games last year and Tom Brady was set to miss the first four games of this season. Obviously, they haven’t been met.

This leaves New York in a tough position when it comes to meeting the playoffs. The Jets would likely need to go 9-2 in their last 11 games to make the playoffs. With Ryan Fitzgerald at the helm, it’s hard to imagine that happening. Not to mention the fact that New York has to play the New England Patriots twice this season — and both matchups are likely to include Brady.
