Following a historic postseason loss, in which the Los Angeles Chargers blew a 27-0 lead against the Jacksonville Jaguars on Saturday, rumors began to circulate about Brandon Staley’s job security.

The Chargers’ second-year head coach is on the hot seat after his team completely melted down in a 31-30 loss to the Jaguars over the weekend. Even with that, NFL Insider Adam Schefter of ESPN doesn’t expect the Chargers to make a change at head coach.

“The early indications right now are that Brandon Staley is going to be safe,” Schefter said during an NFL Live appearance Monday.

Schefter went on to say that he believes there will be changes coming to the Chargers coaching staff, particularly to the offensive side of the football, especially when considering that running back Austin Ekeler didn’t record a single rushing yard in the second half, among a multitude of coaching staff blunders.

“Right now, I don’t suspect that it’s going to involve Brandon Staley,” Schefter said of a potential coaching staff shakeup in Los Angeles. “I think the Chargers organization wants to see him continue to grow, learn, improve and mature as a head coach.”

Staley was on the hot seat even before his team’s embarrassing loss in Jacksonville. The Chargers lost starting wide receiver Mike Williams to a back injury, as Staley inexplicably elected to play his starters in a meaningless Week 18 game against the Denver Broncos. Between that decision and this past Saturday’s playoff loss, Staley’s seat has never been hotter.

Still, Schefter expects Staley to remain put for the time being.
