To anyone watching Sunday’s game between the Jacksonville Jaguars and the Los Angeles Chargers, it was clear that Chargers head coach Brandon Staley was out-coached by Jaguars head coach Doug Pederson in the second half of the game. But apparently, that wasn’t clear to Staley.

During a press conference this week, Brandon Staley was asked if he felt he was outcoached by Pederson in the game. And he seemed to shy away from that characterization of the game.

“I thought it was a tight game,” Staley said according to Pro Football Talk. “I thought that for a half, I wouldn’t say that was the case for a half. At the end of the game, that team that we were playing showed a lot of fight, a lot of resilience. I thought it was a high-quality game against two teams that are both young and hungry. So I thought it was just a high-level game all around. I think Doug is an outstanding coach, and I know we were coaching at a high level, and I hope we get another chance at those guys.”

Whether he believes it or not doesn’t change what happened. But the good news for Staley is that the brutal loss did not cost him his job.
