Former NFL quarterback Brett Favre was attempting to sue football media personality Pat McAfee for comments he made regarding the Mississippi welfare scandal Favre is currently facing, but it appears that lawsuit will no longer be going forward.

Pat McAfee announced on his show on Thursday afternoon that Brett Favre has dropped his lawsuit “with no settlement paid” after his lawyer previously claimed the lawsuit was “going to cost Pat McAfee millions of dollars,” suggesting it could even bankrupt him.

“As many of you know, Brett Favre sued me over statements that I made about him on this program. As I confirmed in my court papers and I repeat here, my statements – expressed in comedic style – were based solely on public information and allegations,” McAfee began “As I had previously stated, I respect the hell out of Brett Favre the football player and his Hall of Fame career on the field and I have no personal knowledge about any case involving Brett in Mississippi.”

“I am pleased to report that based solely on me again clarifying these points now, with no settlement paid, Brett [Favre] is withdrawing his suit against me,” McAfee said. “I would much rather talk about sports than about lawsuits, so I am glad we have all of this behind us. We now move on.”

It’s a pretty brutal update for Brett Favre as his lawyer previously claimed that Favre and the lawsuit would “bankrupt” McAfee, and now McAfee isn’t even paying a settlement in the case.

As a result, the sports world had plenty to say about it on Twitter.

Favre also brought a defamation suit against media personality Shannon Sharpe. It’s not immediately clear whether or not that one was dropped.
