Brett Favre Syndication: The Enquirer

On Thursday, Brett Favre withdrew his defamation lawsuit against sports personality Pat McAfee that was initially filed after comments McAfee made on his show regarding the Mississippi welfare scandal involving Favre. And it seems Favre has his own take on the news.

On Thursday, Brett Favre claimed on Twitter that he and McAfee had “settled” the litigation.

“I’m happy that Pat McAfee and I have settled this litigation. Like Pat said, he was attempting to be funny and not commenting based on any personal knowledge. We’d both much rather talk about football,” Favre said in a tweet on Thursday afternoon.

While it may be technically true that the two sides “settled” the litigation, McAfee revealed on Thursday that the “settlement” including no payment from Favre as he simply withdrew the lawsuit againt McAfee. This comes after Favre’s attorney previously claimed the lawsuit was going to cost McAfee “millions.”

“As many of you know, Brett Favre sued me over statements that I made about him on this program. As I confirmed in my court papers and I repeat here, my statements – expressed in comedic style – were based solely on public information and allegations,” McAfee said on Thursday. “As I had previously stated, I respect the hell out of Brett Favre the football player and his Hall of Fame career on the field and I have no personal knowledge about any case involving Brett in Mississippi.

“I am pleased to report that based solely on me again clarifying these points now, with no settlement paid, Brett [Favre] is withdrawing his suit against me,” McAfee continued. “I would much rather talk about sports than about lawsuits, so I am glad we have all of this behind us. We now move on.”

It may be a matter of semantics, but the two statements read very differently – especially given the previous comments from Favre’s attorney.
