Despite the fact that Brian Flores is suing the NFL over discrimination, that’s not stopping teams from considering him for their head coaching role.
Flores filed a discrimination lawsuit against his former team and the NFL, alleging that the Dolphins and several other NFL teams offered unfair treatment to him during the head coaching hiring process because he is Black. He also said that Dolphins owner Stephen Ross made it clear that he should tank the season in order to improve the team’s draft status. A league investigation didn’t corroborate that claim but, then again, it was a league investigation.
Flores spent the last season as a defensive assistant and linebackers coach for the Pittsburgh Steelers just a few years after leading the Dolphins to winning seasons in two of his three years with Miami. Now, he’s getting another look for a head coaching role from the Arizona Cardinals, who fired Kliff Kingsbury earlier this week.
“The [Cardinals] have requested permission to interview [Steelers] senior defensive assistant and LBs coach Brian Flores for their vacant HC position, sources say,” said NFL insider Ian Rapoport on Friday.

The Cardinals are one of five teams interviewing head-coaching candidates, including the Indianapolis Colts, Denver Broncos, Houston Texans, and Carolina Panthers.
The Cleveland Browns are also said to be interested in interviewing Flores, though that would be for their defensive coordinator position.
