The Denver Broncos moved on to the AFC Championship after defeating the Buffalo Bills in an overtime thriller to advance past the divisional round. However, the victory was followed by a major scare for fans after head coachSean Payton’s post-game presser.
Payton announced that the Broncos’ young franchise quarterback, Bo Nix, had suffered a brutal ankle injury in the fourth quarter that will need surgery to repair, ending his postseason after leading Denver to the number one overall seed in the AFC.
However, Nix is only in his second season as a pro. So, not only should he have no problem making a full recovery, but he’ll have ample opportunities to get back to the top of the mountain and compete for an AFC Championship.
What’s also remarkable about Nix is the perspective and outlook he’s maintaining through this trying period.
“The last few days have been hard to put into words,” Nix said in an Instagram post.
“What started as one of the most exciting games I’ve ever been a part of ended with some of the most devastating football news I’ve ever received. This is not how I imagined my season would come to an end, but our season has been defined by overcoming adversity and responding to it.
“I can’t express how much this team and organization mean to me and how much I believe in them. I couldn’t be more proud of our guys. I couldn’t be more confident in Jarrett. And I couldn’t be more excited for what’s next. Thank you all for the kind words, love and support over the last few days. Thankful for my trainers, Beau, Vince and Dr. Waldrop for taking great care of me.
“God never says oops, and he is always good. He has big plans for this team. We’re not finished, as a matter of fact we’re just getting started. We’re just going to keep climbing.”

Fans reacted to Nix’s message on social media.
“If Mahomes is back from a blown out knee by opening day shouldnt nix be good to go in a few weeks? Im new to fake scripted injuries so im not sure how it all works yet,” one fan wrote on Twitter.
“That’s just so messed up. Feel for the kid and Broncos fans. Broncos have a new fan this weekend! Hope they can pull off the upset,” someone else added.
“Athletes know this situation is the worst because if the team does well without you, it feels like you weren’t important or valuable. Hard to shake that feeling too,” another fan added.
It’ll be exciting to see how Nix responds next season.
