The Denver Broncos secured the number one overall seed in the AFC this season, but from start to finish, something felt off under head coach Sean Payton. As elite as Denver’s defense was, the offense struggled to put things together for entire games.
When quarterback Bo Nix went down with a season-ending injury in the playoffs, things got even uglier in the AFC Championship, costing the Broncos a prime opportunity at a Super Bowl.
Now, a major change is coming to Denver’s operations, according to one prominent league insider.
“A notable change: Broncos HC Sean Payton said OC Davis Webb will be Denver’s play caller this season,” reported ESPN’s senior NFL insider Adam Schefter.

Fans reacted to Payton’s decision on social media.
“I love it. Broncos are gonna have a great offense to compliment their already great defense. With Sean Payton free to just manage the game and chime in with the perfect playcalls at the perfect moments, instead of always thinking of the next play and the next series,” one fan wrote on Twitter.
“It’s still going to by Sean’s scheme and playbook though. The real Q is how much freedom will DW have calling a specific play in a specific moment? This almost creates more questions than answers,” another fan added.
“Payton’s playcalling stunk most of the year. I like trying someone else. It’s not like he can’t switch back,” one fan added.
It’ll be interesting to see how Davis Webb does in his new role.
