It’s just a matter of time before the NFL announces its suspension of Cleveland Browns starting quarterback Deshaun Watson. Most reports are that Watson will receive an 8-game suspension over the sexual harassment allegations against him.
With former starter Baker Mayfield now on the Carolina Panthers, Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski has said that the plan is to start Jacoby Brissett if Watson is unavailable.
As the impending suspension lingers over Browns’ preseason camp, Stefanski told reporters Friday that he’s controlling what he can.
#Browns HC Kevin Stefanski on Deshaun Watson's ruling taking this long: "You control the controllables. I control what goes on on this field, so I do that. It's important for me, all of us, to control what we can control."

“You control the controllables,” Stefanski said. “I control what goes on in this field, so I do that. It’s important for me, all of us, to control what we can control.”
Stefanski also said both quarterbacks will be taking a lot of reps in practice.
Brissett was a backup in Indianapolis and Miami over the past few years and has started games in both stints, so it’s not as though he will come into the situation untested. He was also drafted in 2016 by the New England Patriots as a backup to Tom Brady when Jimmy Garoppolo was traded to the San Francisco 49ers in 2017.
The ironic twist in all of this is that are still whispers that the Browns are still looking at Garoppolo as a possible starter too and may trade for him later. Garoppolo is currently looking for a new team as the 49ers have given him permission to seek a trade.
