Throughout much of the pre-draft process leading up to the 2025 NFL Draft, Penn State edge rusher Abdul Carter was largely regarded as one of the safest players on the board. But after not participating at the NFL Combine or his Pro Day due to a foot injury that needs surgery, the narrative is beginning to change around Carter as a prospect.
Production has never been the issue for Carter, who dominated this past season at Penn State, with 12 sacks on the year and 24 tackles for loss, the most of any player in the Big Ten.
Some see Carter’s upcoming foot surgery as a red flag that may see him slide down the draft board come April. But recently, Cleveland Browns general manager Andrew Berry outlined how he is still confident that this will just be a blip on the radar in what will be an excellent NFL career for Carter.
“Not going to be prohibitive to a long, successful career,” Berry told reporters on Sunday.

The Browns have been linked to quarterbacks at the top of the draft with their No. 2 overall pick. But if they aren’t enamoured with any of the quarterback options, bringing in someone like Carter to pair with Myles Garrett, who they just extended on a massive new deal, could certainly provide the Browns with one of the best pairs of edge rushers in all of football.
Could these comments from Berry be a sign of things to come for Browns fans? Only time will tell. But clearly, Berry is of the opinion that Carter will be a force to be reckoned with in the NFL wherever he ultimately lands.
