The Cleveland Browns have been a mess since returning to Lake Erie. Rookie quarterback Shedeur Sanders being named to the Pro Bowl served as a nice distraction, but the franchise is back in the headlines for the wrong reasons again.
On Wednesday, the Browns named former Baltimore Ravens offensive coordinator Todd Monken as the team’s new head coach after firing Kevin Stefanski earlier this offseason. Now, one of the other coaches on staff, who was also a head coach candidate, is outraged, according to one prominent insider.
“After the Browns informed DC Jim Schwartz this morning they were passing him over to hire Todd Monken as head coach, Schwartz was visibly upset, said goodbyes in the building and told other coaches he’s not coming back, sources tell The Insiders.
“Schwartz is under contract and Cleveland wants to retain him. But his future is now unclear,” NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero reported.

Pelissero followed up with more info on what a Schwartz departure would mean for the franchise.
“The Browns may now have to replace all three coordinators: The Rams put in a request to interview Bubba Ventrone for their special teams coordinator job, per sources. Ventrone, who is regarded as one of the NFL’s best, is not expected to stay on Todd Monken’s staff.”
It’ll be interesting to see if Cleveland can stabilize things and finally put together a serious team.
