The Cleveland Browns had a surplus of quarterbacks to say the very least. Even after making the tough decision to cut former Pro Bowl quarterback Tyler Huntley, Cleveland had 4 quarterbacks on its 53-man roster.
That’s set to change, with the Browns deciding to trade away one of their veteran quarterbacks to the Las Vegas Raiders, who recently lost their backup, Aidan O’Connell, for the first several weeks of the regular season.
“Trade: Browns are sending QB Kenny Pickett to the Las Vegas Raiders, per sources. Raiders needed another backup for Geno Smith with QB Aidan O’Connell fracturing his wrist in the preseason finale and being expected to miss 6-8 weeks,” reported ESPN’s senior NFL insider Adam Schefter on Monday evening.
Fans reacted to the news on social media.
“Dudes getting passed around like a basketball,” one fan wrote on Twitter.
“Raiders trading Pickett after O’Connell’s injury is QB musical chairs. 5th-round pick is pocket change for depth behind aging Geno Smith. Pickett goes from Browns QB purgatory to potential Raiders lifeline. Smart money says this keeps their season alive,” someone else added.
“Browns trade Kenny Pickett to Raiders, bolstering Vegas’ QB depth behind Geno Smith. Can Pickett shine as a backup with O’Connell out,” another fan wondered.
It’ll be interesting to see how Pickett gels in Las Vegas.
